This project systematically search for and collate published and grey literature to, support a scientific opinion on a systemic approach to the energy transition in Europe, for the European Commission.
The European Commission has proposed a target of net zero greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions in the EU by 2050. A major transition of the European energy system away from the current reliance on fossil fuels towards low carbon or renewable sources of energy is required to achieve this goal. In order to meet the targets, a clear understanding of what is known, what is only partially known and what is currently unknown with respect to the European energy system is needed. This project contributed towards developing this knowledge base by, systematically searching for and collating published and grey literature, to support a scientific opinion on a systemic approach to the energy transition in Europe.
The supporting evidence is presented in Annex 6 of the final report published by .
