Advent Day 5: Top 5 for student satisfaction

    5 December 2022

The National Student Survey revealed we were 5th in the UK for Student Satisfaction this year, but just what is it that makes the Harper Adams student experience so good?

Our NSS overall score of 85.71% was awarded by 86% of our eligible full-time students, studying their first undergraduate degree - a proportion way ahead of the sector average.

Over the last decade more than £50 million has been invested in our campus – from a state-of-the art robotic dairy, to cutting edge teaching laboratories; to our latest upgrade in the Veterinary Education Centre.

“Some of the facilities we’ve got here other universities could only dream of,” says Agricultural Engineering student Rhodri Williams. “Having the farm on site, all the money funded in – it’s one of the reasons I chose Harper – that and the support you get.

“The experience you get here is just like one big community – the lecturers, students and support staff. Everyone is welcome here”.

A week after our the NSS results went live, our first annual Respect Report was launched; with a reinvigorated focus on student voice and gathering feedback – an ethos we hope encourages continued engagement with the student survey and other channels to embrace student opinions.

Speaking on his Harper experience, BSc (Hons) Rural Enterprise and Land Management student, Thomas Saunders said: “You’re not a number at Harper, you’re a person who is being taught the skills for a successful career. We are given a level of support that I did not think a university would offer… My favourite thing about Harper Adams is that everyone looks out for one another”

Vice Chancellor, Professor Ken Sloan was thrilled with the NSS result, commenting: “We are all committed to building upon this result and ensuring we are delivering excellent, relevant, effective learning and social experiences to all students at all levels.

“I want to thank all the students who took time from their busy final year schedules to take part in the survey and provide such valuable feedback. And thank you to all of the University’s employees, partners and supporters who work together to deliver this high-quality experience”.
